Have you ever asked this question: Why does God not tell me everything I want to know?
I recently did a teaching study on hearing God and receiving deep revelations from His heart. Part of that was on why people don’t hear what they want to hear from God. I thought I would share some of the for those interested in learning more.
Reason 1: He's not speaking about it.
Why does God not mention or speak of it? How come I know something, but God refuses to bring it up again? People struggle with knowledge God has chosen to wipe out. The bible teaches us that there are things God chooses NOT to remember or ever bring up again. HERE IS THE THING… You can’t discern or hear what God is not speaking about, because when He has dealt with a matter, He puts it away permanently.
I have seen people wrestle with things for decades that God refuses to mention again, because they are not done with it yet. So, in their desperation to remind God, they start fishing in the bottomless ocean where God throws things, hoping to find that thing again so they can refocus God back on their issue. They think God is somehow ignoring them, or they’ve stopped hearing Him, or they’ve lost their discernment, but that is not what has happened.
The word of God says that when God accepts forgiveness, He chooses to never address that transgression again. He removes it from His mind and WILL NOT mention it again. He removes it from the person as far as the east is from the west [Psalm 103:12] and He casts it into an ocean that has no bottom. [Micah 7:19] He says: I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. [Hebrews 8:12] I am He who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I WILL NOT REMEMBER your sins. [Isaiah 43:25; Jeremiah 31:34]
And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it and let us eat and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. [Luke 15:21-24]
Micah 7:19 says when God forgives, He casts all our sins into the depths of the sea. He takes it so far out of the conversation that He will never bring it up again. It’s what is called justification… just as if I never sinned.
The reason people want to continue hearing God on these matters is because they are not satisfied and want to continue prosecuting a matter God has already closed the case on. They want more, but God said it is done, and I am satisfied. It is in times like these I have found it good to be reminded who God is and who we are. He is God, and we are not. He is judge and we are not. His verdict, and not ours, is the verdict heaven will hold to. Heaven is not governed or moved by the wants and desires of men.
Reason 2: It's none of your business.
We often say: Jesus tell us everything we want to know! How will it go? What will happen to the others? Tell us how the others will die? Who will be the greatest? [Luke 9:46] Who will make it and who won't? To which He said: NO!!!... it is not for you to know.
If it is not yours… God will not give it to you! It’s hard for some people to hear this, but there are things that are not our business. God will not talk to anyone about things that does not involve them. There may come a time when it becomes their business or they could’ve received the understanding that allows that information to be useful, but God decides who He give what to. We must be very careful here. It is this appetite for what is not yours where the sins of rebellion, usurping and dishonor are born.
The New Testament Greek word ‘allotriepiskopos’ which is translated meddler or meddling means: “trying to be an overseer in a country that is not yours”. Jesus on several occasions said to some of His disciples: “What business is that of yours? How does that concern you? What difference does that make to you? You don’t need to know stuff that has nothing to do with you! Just follow Me!” (great example John 21:19-23).
God is not human. He does not gossip or give out information to entertain crowds, prove a point, populate a news cycle or feed human curiosity. He does not use information to cause public spectacles or instigate witch hunts. He loves His children. His thought are His thoughts, and His ways are His ways. That’s why He declares: My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. [Isaiah 55:8-9]
It is wise to remember God entrusts certain information to certain people, positions and authorities as He determines relevant to their responsibility and function. God appoints and equips His people for the call He has put on their life, and He will hold them accountable to the requirements He give them. If it is not our call, position or place, then it is not our business to know, and HE WILL NOT TELL US.
How many times did Jesus do, or say, something and then instruct the person not to go tell about it? [Mark 8:29-30; Matthew 16:20; Mark 8:29-30; Luke 9:20-21; Mark 1:40-44; Matthew 8:1-4; Luke 5:12-15; Mark 1:34, 3:11-12] … other times He said don’t say anything until the right time comes… while He also on several occasions said go tell everyone and hold nothing back! ---> What does that mean? When it is our business God will involve us and tell us all we need to know to do what we need to do… UNTIL THEN we trust Him and the course He has chosen to take with who He was chosen to do it.
Reason 3: He tells His friends.
John the Baptist said he knew things, because he was a friend of the bridegroom. [John 3:27-36] In Psalm 25 David said that friendship with God is reserved for those who truly worship Him. It is with those whom He will share His secrets. The LORD confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them. [Psalm 25:14] God has deeper conversations with those who He calls friend.
‘No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing: but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you’. [John 15:15]
Servants do not get the same level of communication that a friend gets. A servant has to work without knowledge or explanation, but a friend lives in a much higher level of openness than a servant has. ‘You are my friends if you do what I command’ [John 15:14] Obedience doesn’t make us friends of God, but our obedience is evidence that we are friends with Him.
Be a FRIEND to God! God said of Abraham that he was a friend because He believed Him even when he didn’t know what He was doing. Jesus encourages us to not only serve God and be around Him, but to actually step into the place where we are friends. Jesus said in John 14:21 “My friends obey my commands and love ME… to them I will show Myself”.
You want to walk in greater revelation and communication with God? Be His friend. Believe Him! Trust Him! Know Him! Give Him your doubts.
Reason 4: You can't be trusted
You trust God with your stuff, but can He trust you with His?
Many of us spend a lot of time wondering if God is trustworthy but rarely stop to ask are we. How quickly do you share something that was shared with you in confidence? Sadly, this is a big problem for many. They cannot be held in confidence, and they cannot be trusted with sensitive information. Why then should God tell such a person anything? Why would God open up the depths of what He is doing to one who cannot be trusted with the process? I wouldn't.
I think it’s wise to ask if we can handle the responsibility and the ministry that comes with the blessings we desire and pray for. [Mark 10:35-38] God expects us to be responsible stewards of anything He gives us. [Matthew 25:14-30] James teaches that we can hinder our prayers from being answered. [James 4:1-3]
Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” Then the anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. [Numbers 12:6-9]
God knows what we’re capable of handling. I have discovered that God often tests people’s integrity through challenging circumstances to see where their hearts truly lie and to see if they can be trusted with more in the future. [Deuteronomy 8:2; Psalm 26:2]
“Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange was happening to you. Instead, be very glad – for these trials (tests) make you partners with Christ in His suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to all the world.” [1 Peter 4:12-13]
Can God trust you with more favour, with more resources, with more information, with more influence? Then He will tell you what you need to know.
